Preserving the site that was once home to one of the nation's most famous playwrights, the Eugene O'Neill National Historic Site contains the home of this distinguished man. Tours of his Tao House highlight various facets of both the home's architecture and O'Neill's life, especially during his time in the Danville house when he wrote his last plays during the early 1940s, including "Long Day's Journey Into Night" and "A Moon For the Misbegotten." Outdoor paths and trails make for a nice place to explore a bit of the region's beautiful outdoors. The site is located on the very western edge of Danville, about half an hour's drive from Oakland.
Open by appointment only, Wed. - Sun. Guided tours offered 10:00 a.m. & 1:30 p.m.
Free.
